Shiatsu Massage is a Japanese form of massage. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words - "shi" (finger) and "atsu" (pressure). In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of Qi (energy) throughout the body.Shiatsu is a meditative healing art that honors the body, mind and spirit.
Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body.I use various techniques with my hands, knuckles, and elbows and apply focused pressure on “problem areas” or “trigger points” in the body.Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don’t get too uncomfortable.Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.
Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body’s natural immune function.
Acupressure is a form of bodywork similar to acupuncture, with the aim of stimulating specific points along the energy lines of the body to establish overall health and vitality by balancing your Qi (energy) flow. Unlike acupuncture however, with this modality I use my hands to apply pressure to the specific points rather than needling, producing similar therapeutic results. This goes along with what I do in Shaitsu and trigger point therapies. Some have heard of Tui Na. I do not just have a session for acupressure but it can be something I add to the session.
Reflexology is a type of bodywork that focuses on applying pressure to the specific nerve zones in your feet. Unlike other foot massages that intend to mostly relieve tension in the feet themselves, reflexology is a far more in-depth science that aims to harmonize your entire body. According to reflexology, every part of the human body is mapped into the feet. Reflexology treatments have been found to be highly effective for conditions such as allergies, headaches, and depression.
Rolfing, or “Structural Integration”, is a scientifically validated system of restructuring the human body. It releases the body from life-long patterns of tension and allows gravity to naturally realign them. This deep and often painful therapy is highly effective for improving posture, reducing or eliminating chronic pain, and releasing long-term emotional and mental stress.A typical treatment (called a “10 series”) consists of ten weekly, one-hour sessions, with each session focusing on a certain area of your body. These sessions are organized into a specific sequence to most effectively realign the entire body. When the treatment is completed, you will experience a ‘new’ body that has better posture and a more relaxed relationship to gravity.
Structual Alignment is what I call it or have been taught. It is like Rolfing but the only persons who can say they are a Rolfer are people who went to the Rolfing school. She has a Trademark on that name.
Herbal Medicine is the therapeutic use of plants, and is one of the oldest forms of health care in the world. Depending on your specific needs, we prescribe specific herbs that produce and contain a variety of chemical substances that act upon the body. Different herbs have been effectively used for a wide range of medicinal purposes including pain relief, hormone balancing, sleep enhancement, improved digestion, skin soothing, and stress relief.
I have had my education in herbology, dietary supplements as well as other holistic approaches to help in your life. Everyone under doctor care would have to consult their doctor to make sure nothing would contraindicate with your medication. Although vitamins are safe the wrong dose can interact with your other meds.
Intergrated Therapies is when I combine several modalities to your session to best give you and your experience the results we are looking for. I do this alot because a person can get caught up with what is known and being the professional I can feel how your body response. Base on that response I change my modality or approach to get the best results. Ex. You might say hay I want deep tissue and you do not need it but you need firm pressure.
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy aims to gently and rhythmically move the lymph through the body, especially swollen areas of the body, relieving pressure and enhancing the functioning of the immune system. As both a preventative and remedial technique, LD can be used for a wide range of purposes including faster recovery from injury, reduction of swelling and discomfort from pregnancy, and strengthened resistance to illness.
The Lymphatic System
Benefits of lymphatic massage stem from its ability to enhance the function of the
lymphatic system. Lymph is a fluid rich in white blood cells that fight viruses, cancer
& bacteria. Every 24 hours, about three quarts of lymph circulate around the body via
an elaborate system of lymph vessels. Lymph carries the body’s waste to lymph nodes
where filtering & detoxification occur. The swollen "glands" you feel in your neck when
you are coming down with a virus are actually lymph nodes working to free the body of
waste products.
How does Lymphatic Massage help?
When lymph flow is enhanced, toxic & infectious materials, as well as excess bodily
substances like water & protein are removed more effectively from tissues. This supports
the immune system & helps rid the body of wastes that can increase pain or cause fatigue.
In scarred or otherwise injured areas, damaged cells & inflammatory wastes can be moved out, helping to speed healing.
What is a session like?
Lymph vessels are just under the skin, moving the lymph requires a gentle touch. Lymphatic massage can be incorporated into, and may enhance, your regular massage session. Expect it to feel much lighter and slower than standard massage. Most people experience lymphatic massage as deeply relaxing and some fall asleep.
After The Session
After your session, it’s possible to feel light-headed so you may wish to rest for some hours. You may also find that you feel rejuvenated, invigorated or simply lighter in the healing hours
or days following a session. You may be thirsty during or after your massage, & I advised to drink extra water before and after sessions.
Trigger Point Therapy is a gentle style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing “trigger points” in your body.Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle tissue rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These ‘knots’ are built up throughout a person’s life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress.During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.
